Questions people ask
- Is the MOT check really free?
- Yes. MOT history and tax status come from the DVSA and DVLA APIs, which are free to query. We don't ask you to sign up or buy credits.
- What does the MOT history show?
- Every MOT test recorded since 2005: the date, pass or fail, the mileage read at the test, the expiry date, and every advisory, minor, major and dangerous defect the tester recorded.
- How current is the data?
- MOT results are usually on the DVSA system within a few hours of the test. Tax status is whatever DVLA holds at the moment you search.
- Can I check a car I'm thinking of buying?
- Yes, and you should. Compare the mileage at each test for gaps or drops, and read the advisories on the last two tests. Repeated advisories that never turned into repairs tell you how the car has been kept.
- Does this show the registered keeper?
- No. Keeper details are personal data and DVLA does not release them through the public APIs. We show what the vehicle is, and its MOT and tax record.
