  1. GL1800 · airbag inflator body may rupture during deployment

    1 Mar 2018 · RM/2018/010

In the event that the airbag is activated it may overinflate due to overly aggressive combustion of the propellant. As a result the excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator body to rupture and metal fragments may pass through the cushion material causing severe injury to the rider.

Fix: On affected machines replace the airbag assembly.

  2. GL1800 · airbag may fail to deploy correctly

    13 Apr 2017 · RM/2017/004

The propellant used in the subject air bag inflators may degrade over time due to heat cycles and exposure to moisture. In the event that the airbag is activated it may overinflate due to overly aggressive combustion of the propellant. The excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator body to rupture and metal fragments may pass through the cushion material causing severe injury to the rider and / or in worst cases a fatality.

Fix: Recall the machines that are likely to be affected and replace the airbag.

  3. GL1800 · airbag may not deploy correctly

    8 Aug 2016 · RM/2016/029

In the event that the airbag is activated excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator body to rupture and metal fragments may pass through the cushion material causing injury to the rider and / or in worst cases a fatality.

Fix: On affected machines a new air bag module will be installed.

  4. GL1800 · rear brake may apply unexpectedly and create fire risk

    4 Dec 2015 · RM/2015/037

The check valve orifice in the brake system may block with deposits resulting in rear brake drag. The unexpected braking/dragging increases the risk of a crash and continued riding may generate sufficient heat to cause fire.

Fix: Recall the machines that are likely to be affected and drain the complete brake system. Replace the secondary master cylinder and rear brake master cylinder. Flush the brake system and then refill and bleed.

  5. GL1800 · rear brake may overheat with a possibility of fire

    13 Feb 2012 · RM/2011/030

It is possible under certain conditions for the compensator port in the Dual Combined Brake System Secondary Master Cylinder to block. This will allow the rear brake to drag with the attendant increase in temperature which eventually could lead to a fire.

Fix: Recall the machines that are likely to be affected to inspect the free play of the Secondary Master Cylinder using a special tool to ensure there is no blocking of the port and if necessary replace the Secondary Master Cylinder with a modified part.

    • GL1800: 1,821 vehicles · built 13 Jun 2000 to 23 Jun 2009
    • GL1800: 1,821 vehicles · built 10 Feb 2011 to 20 Sep 2011
  6. GL1800, GL1800A-1 · crankshaft pulse rotor malfunction

    8 May 2001 · RM/2001/010

The crankshaft pulse rotor may develop stress cracks causing ignition loss and the engine to stop.

Fix: Recall affected motorcycles and fit a new crankshaft pulse rotor which has improved shape and strength.
