It has been identified that if the key ring carries additional weight and the vehicle experiences any extreme road conditions for instance off road or harsh events then the keys can rotate away from the run position on the ignition switch. This will result in the loss of engine power and associated function. Also the air bags will not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a collision.
Fix: Recall all affected vehicles to modify the ignition keys.

It is possible that the front brake hoses at the brake caliper could suffer excessive corrosion to the fittings as a result of corrosive content of the road salt within snow or water. Should the fitting corrode significantly it can result in a brake fluid leak. This leak should be identified. However should the hose detach or rupture without warning then the vehicle braking distance will increase which could cause a collision.
Fix: Recall all affected vehicles for the brake hoses to be replaced.

It has been identified that some vehicles may have insufficient clearance between one or both of the rear brake pipes and the intermediate steering shaft. Should either of the pipes touch the shaft a hole could be worn in the pipe causing brake fluid to leak out. If sufficient brake fluid leaks from the system the brake warning light will illuminate and braking would be limited to two wheels. Once sufficient brake fluid has leaked out of the second pipe; brake failure would occur.
Fix: Recalled vehicles will have a section of the subject pipe replaced with one that has been redesigned to allow sufficient clearance between the brake pipe and the intermediate steering shaft.

The power steering hose is not manufactured to specification. Under extreme steering manoeuvres the hose may fracture and leak fluid. If this were to occur power steering assistance would be lost and vehicles fitted with Hydro-boos power brakes would loss power brake assistance. In addition if the fluid were to spray onto a hot surface this could result in an engine bay fire.
Fix: Recall affected vehicles and replace hose with a quality assured item.

Some of the metal brake pipes are placed so that they could be affected by heat or they could be in a position where chafing could take place. If the above circumstances occur they could lead to in extreme circumstances and over a period of time either loss of brake fluid or air in the braking system. These conditions will lead to a reduction in the performance of the rear brakes.
Fix: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected for inspection. If neccessary re-route replace the brake pipes. On some vehicles a machining tab on the rear differential may need to be removed to allow adequate clearance for the metal brake pipes.

The vehicle uses an Electronic Column Lock (ECL) to prevent the steering wheel being turned when the ignition key is removed. It has been identified that the following two conditions could prevent the correct operation of the steering lock. 1.If the Power-train Control module suffers low voltage or an interruption whilst the engine is being cranked the vehicle can be driven with the steering locked. 2. During quick cranking the ECL lock pins may not fully withdraw which will result in either a noise or rattle or if there is insufficient clearance the steering wheel will not turn. If one of these conditions occurs directional control will be affected.

The possibility exists that an interruption of or low voltage supply to the power train module may allow the vehicle to be accelerated with the steering column lock still engaged. Additionally the column lock may under certain circumstances remain locked when the ignition key is in the on position thus preventing the steering wheel from being turned.
Fix: Likely to be affected vehicles will be recalled at which time the PCM will be reprogrammed. At the same time the steering lock will be checked for correct tolerance and replaced if necessary.

Two scenarios have been identified which may result in the steering column electronic lock (ECL) engaging whilst the vehicle is in motion. (1) The design is such that when the engine is started if the steering column fails to unlock the fuel supply will be shut off if the driver attempts to move the vehicle.However if the voltage at the powertrain control model is low or interrupted fuel shut off may not occur and in consequence the vehicle can be accelerated whilst the steering is locked.(2) During engine cranking the ECL locking pin may not withdraw fully which can result in contact between the lock pin and the locking plate. This can cause noise or ratcheting when the steering is turned. Should the clearance be insufficient the possibility exists that the steering cannot be turned.
Fix: Recalled vehicles will have the electronic control unit re-programmed and lock mechanism inspected to ascertain whether there is adequate lock plate clearance. Should this not be the case the lock plate will be replaced.
