Meritor Hvs recalls

It has been identified that due to a production issue there is the potential for the brake shoe web ends where they are located at the cam roller D slots to either break orfail which can cause damage to the brake shoe brake lining and possibly the inner hub bearing. This can result in a reduction in braking efficiency. However early warning signs of the issue are noise high wheel end temperatures and ABS signal errors.

Fix: Meritor has quarantined all components within the distribution network and are recovering them. For units which have been fitted Meritor is recalling all the affected components and covering cost of the replacement shoes.

The wheel hub units fitted with FAG bearings may exhibit premature wear in certain trailer applications. Prolonged use in these applications may result in degradation of the bearing grease. Early indicators may include noise roughness excessive end-play high running temperatures and ABS signal error. If this condition remains undetected it may potentially lead to a bearing failure axle damage and in extreme cases a wheel-end fire. Timken bearings are not affected.

Fix: Recall the units that are likely to be affected and on certain trailer applications replace the hub units. Other applications check for symptoms and if necessary replace hub unit.

Certain axles were fitted with bearing units which may exhibit premature wear in certain trailer applications. Prolonged use in these applications may result in degradation of the bearing grease. Fix: Depending on trailer application either replace hub units or check and retorque hub assembly. Where retorquing is considered adequate recheck for symptoms and if necessary replace bearing.

Under certain conditions this could allow the ingress of water or other contaminates into the brake which could result in the gradual deterioration of the braking performance.

Fix: The offending tool will be returned to ArvinMeritor and replaced.

Under certain conditions this could allow the ingress of water or other contaminates into the brake which could result in the gradual deterioration of the braking performance.

Fix: Recall the affected calipers for a check and if found out of specification/damaged replace them.
